Tutorial : Gauge & Material Parameters Creation

Objective:

To demonstrate Gauge and Material Parameter creation

Nature of the model:

FE model shown in the above picture is Rear Portion of the vehicle model. It has got several parts with different gauges. Model is in Nastran format.

What you will learn in this tutorial:

How to create the Gauge and Material parameters on several parts belongs to the Rear Portion of the vehicle model.

Summary of steps to execute the model:

1. Gauge parameterization.

Rear-clip Model.

Step-by-step Execution:

1.Gauge Parameter Creation:

Step1: Import

Change the Template to Nastran and import the Rear-clip Model.

Step2: Go to Parameterization module, Select the Gauge Parameter Function. Using this function, Gauge parameters can be created, modified, reviewed and deleted. Choose create option.

Step3: Parameters can be created for Parts or properties, if multiple parts are assigned by single property, then tool create smartly separate parameters for each part.

Choose Parts option, parts selection can be done in different ways can be parameterized.

Step4: Selection of part by using the spread sheet:

In this selection can be directly driven by Spread sheet. User can select the part by choosing PID-by List. List can be either by part ID or by part name. Part names can be selected from spread sheet but names of the parts in spread sheet should be same with the parts in FE model.

PID by List by Name Accept.

User can copy the parts names from spread sheet and paste directly in the component list then select those and accept.

Step4: To use Part by Displayed selection method, First Deselect parts which are not applicable for this parameter, Show only Shell Parts i.e Hideà2DElementsàShowàReturn

Step5: Parameterization à Gauge parameter àCreate à Select by partàPID by displayed àAcceptàCreate.

Here we have 2 choices, either Independent or Group, independent means separate parameters for each part selected, Group means single parameter for multiple parts. Again there are 2 choices in groups i.e. Percentage & Absolute, Percentage option allows to select all parts having different thickness but absolute option allows parts having same thickness.

By default design variable name is Part name. These names can be altered by specifying Prefix and suffix. In one short all the variables will have prefix and suffix.

Specify the Minimum and Maximum values of %option Base. It defines the Minimum and Maximum values of Gauge parameter in relation to base thickness so that throughout the table these values are applicable. Alternately user can directly enter minimum and maximum values in the table.

User can set the gauge limit. It will fix minimum and maximum Gauge values of parameter and don’t allow the parameter values beyond these limits.

User can have preferred numbers by choosing the snap to nearest value. Tool will automatically round it to nearest number with given increment.

Click on create button. Individual design Parameter for each component selected gets created with the specified gauge range.

Step 6: Review the parameter

Parameterization à Gauge parameter àReview à Link

User can review parameter values by selecting the Review option in parameterization panel.

Link the Parameter, corresponding PID will be highlighted. User can review the parameter and click Return

User can delete Parameter by selecting the Parameter in the Delete panel

2. MATERIAL PARAMETRIZATION:

In this user can give the material choices as the parameter for the chosen parts.

Step1: Go to Parameterization module, Select the Material Parameter Function. Using this function, Material parameters can be created, modified, reviewed and deleted. Choose create option.

Step2: Choose Parts option, parts selection can be done in different ways can be parameterized.

Step3: Click the highlighted box and the list of materials available is displayed, select the required materials and click Accept. You can select multiple materials by pressing Ctrl and select.

Do this for all the selected parts.
